In the latest ValueMatrix.TV episode, host Roydon Cerejo sits down with Jean Thomas, Head of Talent Acquisition at EdgeVerve, for a candid look at how hiring has changed in the last five years. As we celebrate the tireless efforts of recruiters and talent acquisition professionals on this 15th annual International Recruiters Day, get an inside view of how AI is changing the game.
Jean explains that the biggest shift is AI, yet its real power depends on something he calls “AI risk appetite” — how much an organization is willing to let the technology take over the process from job description to offer letter. He notes that recruiters now use AI for quick tasks like drafting JDs or summarizing profiles, but there is still no complete storyline connecting everything.
He points out that biases start long before AI enters the picture: resumes themselves are flawed inputs, and two equally strong candidates can look very different simply because one optimized for an ATS and the other did not. Even with AI scoring interviews more objectively, full removal of human bias requires enterprise-wide data that most organizations do not yet have. Bottlenecks persist because humans stay in the loop on feedback and follow-ups.
Jean also shares a fresh perspective on Gen Z, who value experimentation and quick pivots over conformity. He says open dialogue and “Gen Z mentors” help bridge the gap instead of forcing old expectations. Looking ahead to 2026, he sees growth coming less from headcount and more from smart tools, plus truly personalized employee experiences that AI can finally make possible.
If you lead talent or run a team, this conversation gives clear, practical ways to move beyond transactional hiring and build stronger workplaces. Watch the full episode — you won’t want to miss it.
